JST connector

JST is an incorrect vernacular term for small white electrical connectors on PCB of small electronic products manufactured in Asia. JST is not a specific type or size of connector, but instead it's an acronym for Japan Solderless Terminal, which is the long form of the company name J.S.T. Mfg. Co., Ltd.. JST manufactures numerous series (families) and pitches (pin-to-pin distance) of connectors.

JST Mfg. Co., Ltd. was established in 1957 as the first Japan  manufacturer of solderless terminals. JST is one of the top ten connector manufacturers in the world with annual sales of approximately 100 billion. Its headquarters is located in Doshomachi, Chuo-ku,osaka, japan.

A majority of JST through-hole headers can't withstand the temperatures required for reflow soldering, because the plastic has a lower melting point since they were designed for wave soldering  methods. Some JST surface-mount headers are designed to handle higher temperatures of reflow soldering
